Active

Congratulations to Rozina Breen, taking over as head of Radio 5Live's news programmes at Salford Quays. Currently doing digital stuff for the World Service in London but living in Leeds, she has the sort of CV that makes you want a lie-down.

Born in London, and spending some of her childhood in East Africa, she studied English and Drama at Aberystwyth, thence to Leeds for a Masters in Communications. From a radio production assistant at Radio Leeds, she rose to producer for Radio Current Affairs in London, before a break in 2004.

She wrote two guidebooks for teenagers on 'Prejudice' and 'Stress', and lectured in journalism at Leeds Trinity. Her mantra was, apparently "Radio production requires pragmatism and creativity, but also integral to good programme-making is the importance of 'feeling' one's work."  No, I don't know what it means either.

Back to real radio in 2010 as Manager of Radio Leeds, she has also found time for three kids, cycling, running, rugby league, community cinema, painting, and travel. She may have also caught the eye of the DG - below, explaining a digital project for Bradford to Tone with producer Jenny Eells.
