Dressing down

The BBC Trust, apparently aware of the licence fee settlement and the DG's quest to reduce spending by £800m a year (or 23% of total spend) over the next five years, wants BBC regional tv news, local radio and local web output to do more.

Trustee Mark Florman led the inquisition. Broadly put, the introduction of "Local Live" rolling weblogs hasn't worked; local radio audiences continue to decline; neither tv or radio are connecting with black, Asian and other ethnic licence-payers; and editors and producers are not providing enough hard-nosed coverage of local and regional issues. Come back in six months with some answers, says Florman. That means you, Holdsworth - if Harding hasn't taken away more of your money by then.
