Sweepings

Some odds and ends from Lord Hall, BBC DG, grilled this afternoon by MPs on the Culture Select Committee.

He says the number of "BBC Boards" has been reduced from 64 to "around 20". He expects the latest tranche of 1,000 jobs cuts to be complete by summer next year. He revealed the BBC is still considering moving a channel out of London. He name-checked Last Kingdom in his list of great drama this year; though he was unsure whether or not a second series had been formally announced. He was pretty clear that Alan Yentob's conduct around BBC News' coverage of Kids Company was improper and he shouldn't have done it.  He said he would take away the idea of changing the rules for Sports Personality of the Year to make it clear that short-listed candidates should be positive role models.
