Strictly Media 2015

In case the cascade of media stories slows over the festive period, I offer over coming days a recap of Strictly Media 2015, in which couples disport themselves across the dancefloor of life until "they can do no more".

1: Alan Yentob and Camilla Batmanghelidjh.

Every year it seems that Strictly throws up an unlikely couple whom the nation takes to their hearts, despite their lack of basic ability. Sadly, this year it wasn't to be.

Al and Cam had previous experience on the dance floor, winning the nPower-sponsored Salsa Accounting Championships more than once. And this bigger competition started well, with a powerful if measured pasodoble to Coldplay's Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall. Then it turned out that, behind the scenes, other couples had complained about Al watching their rehearsals from the production gallery, telling them which steps they could and couldn't do. So came a first round exit with the show's first ever disqualification. There was also some suggestion that the couple had exaggerated the public vote, and over-stated the public disquiet which might follow their departure.

But indomitable Al has vowed to press on as a solo performer, and we look forward the Imagine Break Dancing special in 2016, followed by a stadium tour with Mick (Jagger, you know), Jay-Z and Grayson Perry, choreographed by Antony Gormley.

Tomorrow: Lord Hall and Valerie Hughes D'Aeth.
