As the festive ratings for both BBC1 and ITV are more than a little off the top, perhaps we need to be reminded what happens in the States, where there is no real tradition of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day schedules boasting other than old chestnuts and stuffing.

Christmas Eve
CBS- The Big Bang Theory- 5.91m
ABC- Charlie Brown Christmas- 4.15m
NBC- It's A Wonderful Life- 3.81m
Christmas Day
CBS- Andy Griffiths Xmas Special- 5.19m
ABC- CMA Country Christmas- 4.83m
NBC- Truth Be Told Final- 2.01m
5.91m doesn't even beat last night's BBC1 10pm bulletin, with Sophie Raworth, which topped our ratings at 6.2m.
