An unusual performance yesterday on Feedback yesterday by Radio 4 Controller Gwyneth Williams. Clearly recorded and edited, she giggled greetings to each listener putting questions on the phone, and was more than once elegantly put down by them. It had the odd feel of an archive programme.
Try about nine and a half minutes in, when one of her interrogators points out that "needs refreshing" actually means cutting some people's favourite shows and replacing them. Others pick at her odd phraseology such as "the news cycle has accelerated".
"Thank you very much for having me talk to listeners" she ends "I've really enjoyed it". And with an (imagined) swish of pearls, returns to her office to work out how to make 20% savings over the next six years.
