I hope the BBC Executive realise that the extension to Broadcasting House is still technically a building site, and that fire hazards must be avoided. I say this because of rumours about a "candle of BBC journalism", which has apparently been handed around at various leaving events. One sighting had Mark Byford proffering the candle to departing online guru Pete Clifton, with instructions to hand it on to Helen Boaden. (Perhaps Mark hadn't heard the rumours that Pete might well re-surface on Ashley Highfield's books at Microsoft UK).BBC firemen will not take kindly to naked flames in their new building at any time this week - or in the future.
