Broadcast consultancy Oliver and Ohlbaum carried out a internet survey of 3,000 in England and Wales after the licence-fee deal, and came up with these views on the BBC paying directly for the World Service from 2014. 36% thought it was an inapproriate use of the licence fee, 28% said there should be no public funding whatsoever for the World Service, and only 26% saw no problem with licence fee income being used to keep it going. 11% were concerned that the move threatened the BBC's independence. There is, as we've said here before, some PR work around the "vision" to be done.
