A usually-well-sourced tipster tells me that the next Chairman of the BBC Trust will be a "senior Tory". Beyond that no further clues, but there's nobody obvious filling the bill on the Paddy Power shortlist.
Roger Parry (11/8) was indeed commissioned by the Tories in Opposition in 2009 to write a paper on local media, but there's no direct engagement in politics obvious in his previous CV.
Patricia Hodgson (6/4) stood as a "forlorn hope" Tory candidate for Islington South in 1974 and duly lost to George Cunningham. She also edited the Bow Group paper for a while, but declares she put party politics behind her in 1981.
Marcus Agius (7/2) is currently on £750k a year as Chairman of Barclays Bank. His track record is in big banking and good works, but I can't see why he'd want this two-day a week job as well. I really think his odds should be longer. Beyond that, Mr Power offers prices on Richard Eyre, Michael Green, Terry Leahy, Stuart Rose and Andy Duncan - none of whom fit the description "senior Tory".
So perhaps we should be scouring the Lords. Patten ? Coe ? Sassoon ? Or waiting for a re-shuffle. Francis Maude ? All sensible thoughts most welcome.
