Strategy and operations

At the end of a week in which the BBC said it had identified the leaker of "Putting Quality First", it seems that the Corporation's Chief Operating Officer, Caroline Thomson, has lost her chief advisor. Tom Sleigh, who joined the organisation in 2008, has resigned.

Tom's previous big appearance in the news came when he was the lowest-paid employee to have his salary made public by the BBC - a package worth £81,000. He graduated in 2000 from Churchill College, Cambridge, with an M.A. in Social and Political Sciences. He worked for first for consultants Booz Allen, (during which time he studied at Harvard as a Fulbright scholar) and then set up his own company creating financial contacts in Poland and the Czech Republic.

One of his responsibilities across the BBC was work on openness and transparency. These things can be taken too far......
