Building Design today reports a row over the fountains and pool at the base of Centre Point - which look certain to go in favour of ventilation shafts and a new underground ticket hall for the Crossrail/Tottenham Court Road interchange; visualisation from architects Hawkins Brown below.
The Twentieth Century Society and modernist campaign group Docomomo argue that the fountains are an integral part of Centre Point's architecture - art paid for by the public - and should go back once the ticket hall and shafts have been dug out. BD photo below of daytime activity in the fountains - a run round Flickr will find more even more adventurous night-time recreation.
