It would be instructive to hear the reflections of BBC Director of Live and Daily News John McAndrew (previously of GB News) this morning about his key outputs, the 6pm and 10pm bulletins on BBC1. Both programmes got themselves into a tangle over domestic political coverage, taking Reform's baited trap of a Trumpian approach to 'sending back' UK established migrants.
The Libdems-in-conference didn't even get a headline on either bulletin; that may be because their leader's "big" conference interview with BBC Political Editor Chris Mason was a scratchy affair, and didn't produce a 'newsline'. If Chris takes a high dudgeon response to accusations of 'cutting and pasting Reform press releases', he needs to get out and about more on social media.
Where will Ed (72 MPs, 3,000 local councillors, around 13% in current polls) end up in today's running orders ?
