Balancing act

Still some work to do by Fran Unsworth on her diversity intentions, to bring staff onside for her changes at senior management level in BBC News.  She's pointed out to staff that two BAME employees attend monthly management meetings as advisers.

Meanwhile Jonathan Munro, officially now her deputy, has wasted little time explaining that Newsgathering is News Content (so why change the name ?).

It was only in November that Mr Munro expounded on diversity issues in the Media Matters podcast: "We don't want all our editorial meetings to be dominated by what ... white people think".  He also talked about 'pipelines', and noted that, when he joined the BBC in January 2014, all the BBC's on-air Editors were white males (apart from Mihir Bose, who was officially part of Sport).  He failed to mention that Kamal Ahmed had been appointed Business Editor in December 2013 (he joined in March 2014.)
