Biscuits and gravy

The ecology of breakfast tv in the USA is changing; NBC's Today show, pre-eminent for 16 years, has been beaten by ABC's Good Morning America in a couple of weeks' ratings this year - and as a result, is having a presenter wobble. The word is that Matt Lauer's co-host, Ann Curry, is on her way - she's been with the programme for years as newsreader/reporter, but last year stepped into the big chair to replace Meredith Vieira. According to the New York Times, Ms Curry's replacement might arrive before the Olympics.

  • One of my US correspondents notes that many put ABC News' resurgence down to Brit James Goldston, formerly of LBC, BBC and ITV, and in his home life, Mr Laura Trevelyan. Goldston's gold dust is also working at the other end of the schedule, where a combination of ABC Nightline and The Jimmy Kimmel Show is currently edging ahead of old war horses Jay Leno and David Letterman.
