Wiggery

Thursday sees the start of Sir Cliff Richard v The BBC, scheduled to keep us entertained for ten days - and this is only the first part of a two-part drama.

Overall, the trial will be a festival of media law fun, looking at issues of privacy before arrest, information sharing between the police and news teams, and the media's rights under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights. If Sir Cliff's team can prove the BBC's liability in all this (remember the BBC's information providers, South Yorkshire Police, settled out of court), then there are issues around claiming special damages for loss of reputation.
