Kickabout

Gooner James Purnell is re-inventing the BBC as the nation's PE teacher.

His department, BBC Learning, is working with the Premier League on an ambitious campaign to combat childhood inactivity.

The BBC will provide primary school teachers with online tools and resources which, they say, will "increase the amount of physical activity currently undertaken in schools and, in turn, aim to increase subsequent cognitive and behavioural benefits in classrooms whilst building the foundations of a healthy active generation."

Whether or not the campaign will feature archive video of Purnell's performances at centre-half for Demon Eyes, the Astro-turf team of New Labour MPs and apparatchiks, is not clear at this stage...
