Former BBC Deputy Director General Mark Byford is to be licensed by the Bishop of Winchester on 16th July as a Lay Canon and Chapter member.
Mr Byford left the BBC in June 2011, when his post was closed, and thus he was entitled to redundancy. Six years later, the role was "re-activated" by DG Lord Hall, who anointed Anne Bulford.
The BBC's policy defines redundancy thus...
Redundancy arises when cessation of employment is attributable wholly or mainly to the
fact:
That the employer has ceased or intends to cease, to carry on the business for
the purpose for which the employee was employed, or has ceased, or intends to
cease, to carry on that business in the place where the employee was employed;
or
That the requirements of that business for employees to carry out work of a
particular kind, or for employees to carry out work of a particular kind in the place
where they are so employed, have ceased or diminished, or are expected to
cease or diminish.
