Home thoughts

Happy 61st birthday to Helen Boaden, former BBC Director of Radio, currently at Harvard on a short fellowship.

She'll be super-chuffed to know that the BBC has released her diary from October 2016 through to January 2017 in response to a Freedom of Information enquiry. Helen formally announced her resignation in September last year, saying she would be leaving in 2017. The following month saw her make business trips to Germany, Italy, Poland and Belgium, then came a good chunk of leave - almost as if she didn't want to be around Broadcasting House.

Much of the good stuff in the diaries is under Snopaque. However there's a heft of meetings about myBBC, which she took into care from the previous custody of James Purnell. We also note a trip to the Royal Academy of Arts, where she has picked up a trustee role. And a mentoring session with 'Cassian' at a branch of Pain Quotidien. Presumably giving rather than receiving, and, at a guess, Cassian Harrison, minder of BBC4 ?
