I have a favour to ask of the editors of the 6 and 10pm bulletins on BBC1, probably the most influential national output we have. Is your vox pop strictly necessary ?
They peppered the campaign coverage, and yet failed to give a real indication of the Leave vote - largely because they were internally 'balanced'. Now they're back, still useless and now turning nasty. In last night's exercise, seeking out unpleasant people for the new 'balance', the BBC correspondent involved actually asked a man in the street "Do you want them [immigrants] to go home now ?".
Next week, balanced vox pops on domestic violence, paedophilia, drinking and driving and tax evasion.
