Could it be magic ?

Is Gary Barlow to be the saviour of Saturday night tv for BBC1 ? The BBC has announced the impending arrival of "Let It Shine" (working title), an eight-part talent show which will help Mr Barlow find cast members for a new musical based on the Take That canon of meisterworks, set to open in 2017.

"We’re NOT after lookalikes but if you think you can sing and move as well as the original members of the group then we’d love to hear from you." Oh-oh, we're already heading for diversity issues, methinks. Mel Giedroyc joins Graham Norton to host.

A substantial range of BBC executives have appended their names to the delivery of this enterprise: Charlotte Moore, BBC Controller of TV Channels and iPlayer; Alan Tyler, Acting Controller of BBC Entertainment Commissioning; Rachel Ashdown, Commissioning Editor for BBC Entertainment; Guy Freeman, Editor of Formats and Special Events; and Executive Producer Andrew Cartmell. Mr Tyler remembered to use the word 'distinctive' in describing the offering.
