Global change

The BBC has announced that Richard Porter, currently Editorial and Digital Director at BBC Global News Ltd, is leaving Auntie after 27 years, ahead of a restructuring - though it won't be an immediate departure, and Richard will continue to work on partnerships.

Richard left school in 1981 with an A-Level in maths. He succesfully applied to the Newbury Weekly News and was indentured for three years. By 1989 he had risen to the Western Daily Press, before joining the BBC in Bristol as a producer on Points West.

Mary Wilkinson, currently billed as Head of Content, BBC Global News Ltd, will act up until someone works out what to do next...

Jim Egan is CEO of BBC Global News Ltd. In the last three financial years, it has returned losses of £1m, £7m and, most recently, £5m against income of £92m, £101m and £93m.
