Old stagers

With BBC Worldwide now settled into Stage 6 of Television Centre, which was the old home of network BBC tv and radio news, work is underway to demolish and rebuild Stages 4 and 5, the old 'old' home of tv news and news online, and post-production.

The floor levels never lined up. It was deliberate, to get more wires and air-conditioning in and out of edit suites and dubbing rooms. So there was the odd ramp in circulation corridors, and lifts with doors front and back to reach half-levels. Of course, odd floor levels and corridors are now a thing of the past (sadly, many say), so the developers Stanhope are rebuilding, they hope, for new occupants. Who might be attracted by the idea of sharing with Soho House, who are taking the top floors for a 47-bed hotel, with rooftop terrace and swimming pool.
