It's clearly from the footage of Charles and Camilla arriving at the Palladium for the Royal Variety Show that a number of people are blissfully unaware that the other side of the Daimler has a broken window and paint splashed all over it. Lord Webber and his wife, and the cameraman from the BBC production team are three. But you can see from Camilla's face that the run up Regent Street has been a real shock. Sky News seemed to have an hour long advantage with live pictures outside the theatre. Then the BBC caught up with a still showing the Royal couple open-mouthed with anxiety as their car was isolated, pelted with bottles, kicked, rocked and window smashed.
I wouldn't like to be the lead Royal Protection Officer when the top bosses in S014 catch up with tonight's events.
